Founded in 1999, the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens have served as an educational space for UTEP students, staff, and faculty as well as the broader El Paso community. On Raise Your Pick Giving Day, we are asking supporters to help increase the number of plants with identification signs in the Gardens. Visitors can see 100s of species of native plants at or close to their mature sizes, and learn how they might include those plants in their own yards. Biology students come with their classes to see first-hand how these plants have adapted to the harsh conditions of the Chihuahuan Desert, and art students learn how to balance light and frame exquisite photos. One of the most commonly asked questions at the Gardens is “What plant is that?” It is difficult to fall in love with a plant but not know what to ask for at the nursery. Adding more signs will help make the Gardens more accessible and informational for all our visitors.
We hope that you will raise your pick to support the Chihuahuan Desert Gardens on April 12! Thank you in advance for contributing to native plant education for all visitors.
In addition to Fine and Performing Arts, the College of Liberal Arts is seeking support for additional programs. Please click the buttons below to explore the various campaign areas:
