Undergrad Student Success in Health Disparities

The College of Science is at the forefront in science innovation and cutting-edge research. For students whose dream career is working in the fields of the biology of human disease, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or environmental science, we can help them realize that reality!

There are few things more important to us then our health. As our understanding of human disease grows, the hope and development of personalized medicine treatments unique to us is becoming a reality. For more breakthroughs to occur, not only must we understand the genes, proteins, and other molecules responsible for protecting us against disease, or those causing the disease, we must also appreciate how we are very slightly different that may represent an opportunity to treat each one of us more effectively when we do get sick. Students in many departments in the College of Science are doing just that, trying to understand these unknown or unexplained differences that can affect us differently, and thus allow us to develop new treatments for cancer, diabetes, bacterial and viral infections, cardiovascular and neurological diseases specific to us. At UTEP, these students are provided with significant research resources, high-end instrumentation, supplies and outstanding faculty mentors to guide them on their journey so they can be the next generation of medical scientists, clinicians and pharmacists.

With your gift, our students will have access to new sources of scholarship and funding to reduce the overall cost of their education, as well as provide them with unique access to cutting-edge technologies outside of UTEP and the ability to interact and engage with world class scientists outside of UTEP through research conferences. This will allow them to showcase their research, share new ideas and develop new insight into therapies that may be used to treat everyone. With your gift, our students will be able to follow their passion, support the future of our world with new therapeutic strategies that we have yet to think of.

On April 17, we hope you’ll raise your pick for our undergraduate students in Health Disparities research! Every gift counts!
