Founded in 2014, the mission of the UTEP Food Pantry is simple: to alleviate food insecurity on campus and reduce barriers to professional and academic success. The program offers nonperishable food and toiletry items to UTEP students. Through our program, the food pantry breaks identified barriers to food, including transportation, lower wages, stigma and more.
Each month, more than 500 students access the services of the Pantry – an increase from approximately 200 students per month pre-pandemic. The increase in need is believed to be due to the lingering aftereffects of COVID-19 and inflation. Increased food costs as well as lost wages or sudden expenses due to illness have been and will continue to impact our students – many of whom live paycheck to paycheck.
As many as 30% of our students are forced to regularly choose between meals or covering other basic expenses like rent, utilities or tuition. But with your help, we can provide food for UTEP Miners and their families. Together, we can fill not just their stomachs – but their hearts. Let them know they are not alone, but cherished members of our community.
Please Raise Your Pick for the UTEP Food Pantry. Each donation – no matter what size -- counts. Thanks for your support and GO MINERS!
