“Overall, any student from any background who is interested, or passionate about conducting research should have the support to do so,” Mariana said. “I am a Latina who was exposed to the world of research as an undergraduate student and was given the opportunity to continue into graduate school. If it weren’t for the financial support I have received, I would not be in a graduate school. I would be working a job that would not make me feel as happy or fulfilled in my career as I am today. With the fellowships and the scholarships I have received, I can not only focus on my studies, but I can also financially help my family and improve our community resilience through research.”
