The Borderlands Digital Humanities Center (BDHC) opened in the Fall of 2024 following several years of externally funded collaborative digital and public humanities projects in the College of Liberal Arts. The Center pursues and supports multi-national, multi-cultural projects on digital platforms that honor the peoples, environments, and experiences of the Borderlands and reaffirm the role of human interpretation in the age of big data.
A successful campaign will help the Center bring together and support scholars, students, and community members from many different disciplines and live experiences as they develop digital projects connected to materials in the UTEP Special Collection, ripe with materials on topics as diverse as water rights, women’s rights movements, food culture over time, railroad expansion, ancient archaeology of the region, and rare Chicanx graphic novels and comics.
Digitizing, interpreting, and publishing the stories of our past and the realities of our present honors our specific cultural context and empowers us to shape the narrative of what this region is both for those of us at la Fron0tera and for those far from it who often see a distorted and polarized image of the borderlands.
Thank you for considering Raising your pick for the BDHC and helping us create rich, interactive, digital publications that tell the many and diverse stories of this region. Remember, every gift counts!
In addition to the Borderland Digital Humanities Center, the College of Liberal Arts is seeking support for additional programs. Please click the buttons below to explore the various campaign areas:
