Food insecurity is an obstacle to student success. You can help ensure that students' basic needs are being met.
The mission of the UTEP Food Pantry is simple: to alleviate food insecurity on campus and reduce barriers to professional and academic success. The initiative offers nonperishable food and toiletry items to UTEP community members, providing a solution to an issue silently plaguing many Miners.
Data from the UTEP Food and Housing Security Survey, conducted over several years by Dr. Eva Moya and Dr. Gregory Schober from the College of Health Sciences, revealed that over 60% of respondents have experienced food insecurity at some point during their college career. Moreover, 29% of UTEP students come from families making less than $20,000 a year. We see the devastating choices that those we serve are forced to make on a regular basis between feeding themselves and their families and covering the cost of education-related expenses, like books.
With your help, we can empower our students to persevere and carry on with their studies by making sure their basic needs are met. Through our program, the food pantry breaks barriers to food, including transportation, lower wages, stigma and more.
Please raise your pick for the UTEP Food Pantry. Every gift counts.
