UTEP Library

As UTEP is an R1- rated research university also providing access to an excellent education, the University Library must provide both students and researchers with the most up-to-date and high-quality resources available. Ninety percent of the Library’s users access its resources online. These digital information sources must be paid for annually even while the Library is on a fixed budget. Choosing to support the Library will ensure that it can continue to provide the information UTEP’s researchers and students need in a way they can easily access.

Your support of the Library on Raise Your Pick Giving Day will translate into:

  • Providing researchers with the high-quality information sources and platforms needed to continue making advances in research;
  • Maintaining students’ Library Fees at the current amount;
  • Supporting Affordable Course Materials to cut down on textbook costs for students.

Researchers need access to the most up-to-date research to ensure that they make meaningful advancements and contributions to their fields; the Library pays the annual costs for the authoritative, peer-reviewed journal subscriptions where the newest research is published. To conduct their own research activities researchers also need access to sources of information like:

  • Primary sources
  • Industry standards and benchmarks
  • Datasets
  • Technical standards
  • Point-of-care tools

The Library annually funds access to these tools with the Library Fee, endowments, and contributions like yours.

Students must shoulder the significant costs of obtaining course materials—like textbooks and courseware—in addition to their tuition and personal expenses. The Library is addressing this widespread financial burden to students by supporting faculty as they transition away from expensive, commercially published textbooks and courseware toward Affordable Course Materials like Open Educational Resources, information sources the Library already provides access to, and high-quality, tailored course materials created by students and faculty at UTEP. Your support will help the Library continue to collaborate with faculty as they lead the way in this paradigm shift in higher education.

The University Library has long housed print materials, and now oversees a great amount of digital material as well. Your support will help ensure that the Library has the tools it needs to preserve access to both print and digital information resources to make sure UTEP and the surrounding community can continue to use this information for years to come.

The University Library serves faculty, researchers, staff, undergraduate students, graduate students, and the local community. You can be sure that your donation to the Library on Raise Your Pick Giving Day will benefit everyone affiliated with UTEP.
