Sports Medicine Program Gift Fund

The University of Texas at El Paso Sports Medicine Department is committed to delivering the highest quality healthcare to all of its student-athletes. The certified athletic trainers on staff serve as healthcare providers for student-athletes as well as clinical educators, supervisors, and mentors for athletic training aides pursuing state licensure in athletic training. The sports medicine department also serves as an educational opportunity for student-athletes and as a focal point to bring the student body, faculty, and community together. The sports medicine staff maintains current knowledge and skill through participation in regular in-services and attendance of annual educational conferences.

The primary goal of the sports medicine staff at The University of Texas at El Paso is to protect the student-athletes and return them to sport participation as quickly and safely as possible after injury. Athletic trainerspossess knowledge in injury prevention, recognition, evaluation, acute care, and the treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning of athletic injuries. Our first objective is to help prevent athletic injuries from occurring through preventative exercise and ensuring a safe playing environment at all times. Recognizing that someinjuries are inevitable, our staff is available to render acute care, provide follow-up treatment and rehabilitation, and counsel student-athletes and their parents on available treatment options. The University of Texas at El Paso strives to deliver current, evidence-based care without discrimination to each and every athlete regardless of their sport or personal team standing.

Raised funds will go towards needed upgrades in equipment and facilities, as well as continuing education opportunities so that the sports medicine staff can continue to deliver high quality care to the student-athletes of UTEP.
